Online radio station, Hamshack Radio: The Independent Cultural Platform in Bree Street.
Hamshack Radio, an online radio station and cultural platform have started broadcasting from Bree Street. Their main mission is to create a hub for creatives. They allow gifted artists to showcase their musical tastes in a way that conventional platforms and venues may not. They also encourage interactive shows giving listeners a unique experience.
They go beyond the airwaves by aligning themselves with other initiatives in Cape Town and work hard to educate artists - as a result launching an expansive 4-week mentorship program in 2021.
Since their inception in 2020 they have grown their residents and contributors to around 120 individuals across South Africa, with handful of international contributors. The shows incorporate homegrown genres such as Amapiano, Gqom and Cape Jazz, as well as other electronic sounds like IDM, modern classical, house, techno and the many modern strands of the hardcore continuum.
When asked what they love most about being in Bree Street they said "We love the people and the sense of community"
