In 2022, Fyn broke into The World's 50 Best Restaurants list for the first time, also picking up The Best Restaurant in Africa award in the process.
Even though this is the first time they are among the top 50 they are not newcomers to this award and made the top 100 in 2021, coming in at number 92. The esteemed culinary event took place in London on Monday, 18 July and was sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, a global program that showcases the top trends and restaurants from around the world that are all creating waves in the market.
FYN Restaurant debuted in late 2018 and ever since then they have procured many awards and accolades. At the 2019 Eat Out Restaurant Awards, FYN Restaurant ranked fifth overall and also won the Eat Out VISI Style Award that same year.
Diners are taken on a journey of flavours, textures, techniques, and visual wonders by the FYN Restaurant team, which is led by chef Peter Tempelhoff and his partners, Ashley Moss and Jennifer Huge. The five waves of meals on the kaiseki-style menu, which combines South African products and Japanese cooking methods, obviously won the World's 50 Best school.
At Urban Lime we focus on creating the perfect tenant mix and placing tenants in spaces they can thrive. In line with this, Jonny Friedman, CEO of Urban Lime searched carefully for the right restaurant match and reached out to Chef Peter Tempelhoff to be part of our beautiful heritage building on the historic Church Square precinct.
As a company, we worked closely with him to co-create this fine dining icon. In which, FYN Restaurant was purposely-built utilising a light structure frame to help maintain the heritage of Speakers’ Corner, which is one of the oldest buildings in Cape Town. As Cape Town was originally developed and grew outwards from Church Square into the bustling city we know today.
Watch this space as Chef Peter Tempelhoff is said to be opening an exciting new Japanese Street Food restaurant, on the ground floor of Speakers’ Corner.
